Riley the Canine: “CBD works!!”

CBD for Dogs - News and research on applications for Cannabidiol for Canines - From the Cannabist. See That's Natural full spectrum CBD Oil Products at www.cbdoil.life

Riley is a three year old, 135-pound Newfoundland dog that is one of a few dozen canines participating in history. A group from Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Fort Collins is conducting the first scientific clinical trial assessing how well CBD works on pets with certain ailments. Dr. Stephanie McGrath, a CSU veterinary neurologist began receiving questions about CBD in 2012 regarding sore hips, seizures, and anxiety caused by fireworks or thunderstorms according to this article.

This clinical trial began in 2016 with the lead of Dr. McGrath. Their first step was to ensure the safety, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics of CBD in healthy dogs to demonstrate the compound was not only measurable in the blood, but also safe enough to warrant studies in a clinical population. 30 research beagles were given capsules, tincture (oil), and transdermal cream – the tincture was the most promising for safety and measurement in the blood, according to McGrath.

No dogs were removed from the study after these administration, which garnished approval for clinical trials from CSU. Clinical trials began to measure the effectiveness in treating osteoarthritis and epilepsy.

In this epilepsy based double-blind study conducted by Dr. McGrath, the stakes were high because of the 30% of dogs using conventional anti-convulsant therapies that continue to have uncontrolled seizures, or a poor quality of life due to side effects – some even end up being euthanized. During the 12-week trial, owners recorded how many seizures per day their dogs had, in addition to monthly blood tests.

Dr. Felix Duerr, a CSU veterinary surgeon conducted the double-blind study regarding arthritis. In this study, dogs received either a placebo or CBD treatment for six weeks. Then, they would receive the opposite treatment for the following six weeks. Each dog was required to walk 15 minutes per day, wearing a collar that measures vitals and activity, in addition to lab work every two weeks.

This is where Riley enters the picture, as she was one of the test subjects with arthritis. She’s had previous surgeries, can’t play for long before needing to rest, she cries at night because of the pain, and even lies down to eat. “I’ll try whatever I can to help her. She needs to have a life,” said Riley’s owner Astonna McCoy.

Riley received stem cell research from CSU previously and it worked well for a few months. However, overnight, the treatment wore off and the arthritis returned with all of its side effects.

Riley established a baseline measurement before receiving CBD by running on a pressure mat, which measured her movements – and also showed forelimb lameness and a weight shift to accommodate her bad right elbow.

After just four weeks, Riley was doing remarkably better on some days, but still had bad ones as well. However, she was now signaling for walks and wanting to play with her 95-pound Golden Labrador Retriever brother named Tank.

CBD appears to be working well for the canines in the study, but results won’t be conclusive for another 12-18 months according to Dr. McGrath and Duerr. As for Riley, she seems to be regaining some of her life that she had previously lost.

The Overlooked Hero – Five Conditions CBD Can Help Immediately

CBD and other cannabinoids are becoming heroes to people with a variety of health issues. #diabetes #anxiety #acne #addiction #crohns and more – see the most recent news and research at at www.cbdoil.life and @cbdhempoil   #health #depression #PTSD #inflammation #immunity #immunebooster #immunesupport #motivation #essentialoils #ThatsNatural

THC is the most famous component of cannabis, but cannabidiol (CBD) is the real hero. It is non-psychoactive (doesn’t get you “high”), and contains a lot of properties that can help with different conditions. Each person has an endocannabinoid system, which works alongside our immune system to help with these conditions. This system is “fed” by consuming cannabinoids like CBD.

Diabetes

CBD has been shown to help people with diabetes stabilize and decrease their need for insulin or other medications. According to the American Journal of Physiology, it has been shown to lower the incidence of diabetes in non-obese mice. “In this study we have investigated the effects of CBD on high glucose (HG)-induced, mitochondrial superoxide generation, NF-κB activation, nitrotyrosine formation, inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and adhesion molecules ICAM-1 and VCAM-1 expression, monocyte-endothelial adhesion, transendothelial migration of monocytes, and disruption of endothelial barrier function in human coronary artery endothelial cells (HCAECs)”.

“Since a disruption of the endothelial function and integrity by HG is a crucial early event underlying the development of various diabetic complications, our results suggest that CBD, which has recently been approved for the treatment of inflammation, pain, and spasticity associated with multiple sclerosis in humans, may have significant therapeutic benefits against diabetic complications and atherosclerosis.”

Anxiety

This is arguable one of CBD’s greatest strengths. Although there have been numerous studies showing CBD’s benefits for PTSD, public speaking, obsessive-compulsive disorder, social anxiety, PTSD, etc…, one study by the National Institute of Health says:

“Studies using animal models of anxiety and involving healthy volunteers clearly suggest an anxiolytic-like effect of CBD. Moreover, CBD was shown to reduce anxiety in patients with social anxiety disorder.”

Acne

While acne is one of the most common conditions, especially among teenagers, it is not very well known that CBD can help prevent it. As this study shows, CBD may be even more effective than mainstream treatments. Tamas Biro, who works with University of Debrecen (Hungary), Department of Physiology, stated:

“CBD is very efficient —actually, in our model system, it was much more efficient than the Vitamin A derivatives like Accutane. Of further importance, CBD was universally inhibitive of lipid synthesis. It was able to inhibit not only the actions of endocannabinoids but also the effects of other inflammatory mediators such as steroid hormones that stimulate fat production in these cells. “Another important result: we found that low concentrations of CBD were very effective in inhibiting lipid synthesis but did not affect the viability of cells. This was also in contrast to the effects of Vitamin A derivatives which inhibit the fat production of sebocytes by killing them.”

Nicotine Addiction

Another study by the National Institute of Health shows that cannabidiol has reduced cigarette consumption in tobacco smokers. 24 smokers were given either a placebo inhaler, or CBD inhaler for one week. When they felt the urge to smoke, they were told to use the inhaler. For one week subjects followed this method, and placebo treated smokers showed no difference. CBD users reduced the number of cigarettes by 40%.

Crohn’s Disease

In a study from 2014, CBD has been shown to benefit patients with Crohn’s disease. It states:

“In a prospective placebo-controlled study, it has been shown what has been largely anticipated from anecdotal reports, i.e. that cannabis produces significant clinical benefits in patients with Crohn’s disease. The mechanisms involved are not yet clear but most likely include peripheral actions on cannabinoid receptors 1 and 2, and may also include central actions.”

30 Days of CBD – The Results Are In!

CBD Stories – More and more people are turning to natural plant-based alternative therapies like CBD Oil. This is someone who used CBD for menstrual cramps, anxiety, depression, and sleep! See the most recent news and research from That’s Natural at www.cbdoil.life and @cbdhempoil   #health #depression #PTSD #inflammation #immunity #immunebooster #immunesupport #motivation #essentialoils #ThatsNatural #skincare #anxiety #sleep #insomnia

The following is a short summary of one woman’s (Leah Vanderveldt) thirty days on CBD oil, and why she loved it! Some of it is education about CBD, and some of it is very subjective. The article starts off by stating that CBD is non-psychoactive and potentially has many positive impacts on health. After pointing out that the US Government has a patent on CBD as a neuroprotectant and antioxidant, it stated:

“”Clinical reports showing its safety and tolerability allow us to move forward with confidence,” says Anjali Dsouza, M.D., of the District Center for Integrative Medicine. “We have long known that, in certain circumstances, cannabinoids like CBD can help achieve and support a stable balance in our bodies, also known as homeostasis. CBD is currently used in a wide range of clinical scenarios including cancer, multiple sclerosis, seizure disorders, traumatic brain injuries, insomnia, anxiety, and PTSD.””

It then discusses that we have an endocannabinoid system and how it uses CBD to reduce inflammation and pain. Dr. Dsouza then said, “I have prescribed CBD oil and my experience suggests it is generally well-tolerated. The worst side effect I have seen is sedation. As with all things, I typically start low and go slow.”

So now, how did CBD oil help Leah personally during this thirty day trial? The first thing she talks about is how bad her period pains have been in recent months. She claims that within 30 minutes of taking a CBD oil, her cramps were gone. Leah says, “The idea of having a natural product I can take to reduce pain is huge. I’ve tried heating pads, essential oils, and calming teas, but this is something that really, tangibly helps and lets me go about my day without pain.”

She claims it also helped her with anxiety. She says she struggles with anxiety, especially around crowds. However, with the CBD oil, she said her attitude was much different – and confident. She also said that just before a plane ride, she got a couple very important emails, and then found out she had the middle seat on the plane. After a couple droppers full of CBD oil, she felt relaxed and read a book for the remainder of the flight.

Admittedly, Leah was unsure of whether the CBD was the reason for this, but she said on five of seven nights that she took CBD oil with her evening tea, she slept excellent, which is someone uncommon for her.

Lastly, Leah found that the “heaviness of depression” didn’t occur while she was on the CBD oil. She has struggled with depression throughout her life and says it can creep up if she isn’t very attentive with her mental health.

While this article is very subjective to Leah, it is just one more example of how CBD might help people with numerous issues. Is it a cure all? No, and nothing else is either. It’s refreshing to hear positive stories like this in a world filled with pessimism and negativity.

Stories Continue to Emerge About CBD and Dogs

More and more pet owners are turning to CBD for their pets! As time goes on, and more studies arise, more pet owners are turning to non-psychoactive components (like Cannabidiol, or CBD) of cannabis (hemp) to help their pets. The International Business Times recently reported one such story involving Brett Hartmann from Los Angeles and his six-year-old black lab.

Hartmann said ever since he started Cayley on CBD, her separation anxiety has disappeared. He said that Cayley used to accompany him to work because of his seizures, but because his new medicines have stopped his seizures, he allowed Cayley to “retire and…I don’t think she handled the transition too well. But CBD has really helped”.

The article then went on to say that CBD doesn’t only help with mental conditions like Cayley’s separation anxiety, but also against arthritis and other painful ailments. The International Business Times also referenced another report of a horse who stopped eating due to a degenerative ligament disease. Within one hour of consuming CBD, as a last resort, it was back on its feet.

Another study by the National Institute of Health reiterates that CBD is non-psychoactive (won’t get you “high”), and is shown to have a high protective index comparable to that of phenobarbital and phenytoin. A protective index compares the therapeutic effect to the amount that causes toxicity. The higher the protective index, the more therapeutic effect and less toxicity an agent produces. So, because of CBD’s high protective index, it means that a person can consume very large amounts without having any toxic results.

Although these are preliminary tests, it appears CBD may be very beneficial to our canine friends as well.

CBD for CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy)

CBD for CTE? People with brain injuries may see some benefit from cannabinoids like CBD. #Football players and other #sports participants can supplement their Endocannabinoid System with CBD to protect and heal from neurodegenerative diseases. #athletes #alzheimers #parkinsons #NFL #MMA #NBA #NHL #concussions #sports #sportsmedicine #ThatsNatural #football #holistic #health #menshealth #health

The Washington Post recently reported that more than 99% of NFL players suffer from Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Of the 111 examined, only 1 did not show signs of this neurodegenerative disease. 202 brains collected from football players of all levels were donated, and 177 of them, or 87%, had CTE. Congress men and women said that this study was a “heartbreaking reminder that we must continue the fight to protect current, former, and future NFL players from CTE.”

So, how do we fight something that seems nearly inevitable in certain sports like football? The NFL pledged $100 million for concussion-related research last September, but a lot of research involving CBD has already been done. One study from Oxford stated that “The endocannabinoid system (ECS) plays an important role in reparative mechanisms and inflammation under pathological situations by controlling some mechanisms that are shared with minocycline pathways. We hypothesized that the ECS could be involved in the neuroprotective effects of minocycline. To address this hypothesis, we used a murine TBI model in combination with selective CB1 and CB2 receptor antagonists (AM251 and AM630, respectively). The results provided the first evidence for the involvement of ECS in the neuroprotective action of minocycline on brain edema, neurological impairment, diffuse axonal injury, and microglial activation, since all these effects were prevented by the CB1 and CB2 receptor antagonists.”

Not only does CBD show promise for helping those with concussions and CTE, but is also shown to be helpful in preventing other neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease and dementia. Why is this important for those suffering from CTE? According to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, football players with CTE are more than 3x as likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease. Even more astounding was the finding that football players were 4x as likely to die because of Alzheimer’s Disease.

Topical Administration of CBD Can Reduce Pain

Topical administration of CBD can help to reduce pain! See more from That’s Natural at www.cbdoil.life and @cbdhempoil #skin #skincare #spas #spaday #psoriasis #eczema #beauty #health #alternative #wellness #mom #life #holistic #healing #essentialoils #wellnessjourney #wellness #sports #sportsmedicine #ThatsNatural

Many people wonder about using Cannabidiol (CBD) topically instead of ingesting an oil. However, some question whether it would work as well as ingesting it. Others prefer to use a lotion/crème because of the experience. Fortunately there are many benefits to using CBD topically – especially for pain relief. For molecules to be absorbed trans dermally, they must be under 500 g/mol. CBD only measures at 314.469 g/mol.

– CBD can be applied directly to the painful areas, which means it may work faster and more efficiently. This also means that analgesic effects are more concentrated to the areas that truly need it.  See this study.

– Zero drugs interactions are known – which means there is no risk of mixing other medications with a topical CBD product.

– CBD can be applied as needed, without any risk of “abuse”.

While some of these make sense, some of them are a bit more confusing. If someone is hurting in a specific area, it makes sense to apply a lotion/crème to that specific area for relief. It reduces the amount of energy the body uses to circulate the CBD throughout our different body systems. When applied topically, the CBD is also not “lost” in parts of the body that don’t necessarily need it.

So, does it really work? Well, according to this study from the National Institutes of Health, yes. The study found that CBD and cannabinol (CBN) yield analgesia by acting at perhipheral sites because of the action on CB1 and CB2 receptors. In fact, Dorsal root ganglia cells contain mRNA for CB1 receptors.

“Additionally, CB1 receptor agonists inhibit nerve growth factor and calcitonin gene-related peptide release.71 Local analgesic actions of agonists for CB2 receptors include the inhibition of mast cell function and inflammatory pain.

The topical administration of selective cannabinoid receptor agents has been demonstrated to have analgesic effects in animal models of inflammatory and neuropathic pain (formalin, carrageenan hyperalgesia, and partial nerve injury), especially for the control of breakthrough pain.”

Also, because no known drug interactions have been found to topical applications of CBD, it may be something more people are willing to try. The evidence is strong that CBD can help with a lot of skin issues including: Acne, psoriasis, cancer, allergic dermatitis, itch and pain, and even hair growth disorders.

New Molecular Targets For Cannabidiol Used For Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Treatments

Research on Cannabidiol for Alzheimer’s, Cannabidiol for Parkinson’s, CBD for Alzheimers, CBD for Parkinsons, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, GPR3, GPR6 – Full spectrum cannabinoids and terpenes from That’s Natural CBD Hemp Oil at www.cbdoil.life

A recent study performed by the University of Louisville School of Medicine may have found a new therapeutic treatment for Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease. Both are neurodegenerative diseases involved with GPR3 and GPR6 – members of constitutively active, G protein-coupled receptors.  “Previously, it has been reported that GPR3 is involved in Alzheimer’s disease whereas GPR6 plays potential roles in Parkinson’s disease. GPR3 and GPR6 are considered orphan receptors because there are no confirmed endogenous agonists for them.”

However, it was then discovered that GPR3 and GPR6 are phylogenetically related to our cannabinoid receptors. High levels of β-arrestin2, an intracellular protein, has been shown to increase the likelihood of developing Alzheimer’s Disease and Parkinson’s Disease. β-arrestin2 is recruited to both GPR3 and GPR6. However, CBD was shown to reduce this recruitment significantly.

Because of the decreased recruitment levels, CBD was shown to act “as an inverse agonist at both GPR3 and GPR6 receptors”.  So, the results of this study suggest that GPR3 and GPR6 likely mediate the potential therapeutic effects of CBD administration. This would be important for the treatment of both neurodegenerative diseases.

The abstract of this study concludes that:

“These results demonstrate for the first time that both GPR3 and GPR6 are novel molecular targets for CBD. Our discovery that CBD acts as a novel inverse agonist on both GPR3 and GPR6 indicates that some of the potential therapeutic effects of CBD (e.g. treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease) may be mediated through these important receptors.”

5 Ways to Consume CBD

How to Consume CBD - From That's Natural Full Spectrum CBD Oil at www.cbdoil.life

Many people ask about how they can take CBD. Some people prefer to apply it topically, or trans dermally, while others prefer to consume it. However, there are multiple ways to consume it, with pros and cons to each. A recent article by INSC Magazine outlined the different ways to consume CBD.

  • CBD can be consumed in a powder or oil form, which allows you to add it meals without the hassle of measuring or mixing. You can also mix them into shakes or smoothies, as they come in a crystallized form. The down side most of these products are an isolate, where it is just CBD, and no other active cannabinoids.
  • CBD oil sprays are also becoming a more popular method of consuming CBD. They work just like mouth fresheners. Spray them into your mouth, generally with a flavor like peppermint, vanilla, etc… As with anything consumed orally, you run the risk of not absorbing very much CBD. Stomach acid is almost as acidic as a car batter, and more acidic than your favorite soft drink.
  • CBD vaporizers have been a growing area of interest, but it also comes with some down side. It is convenient, because you can use disposable vape pens that will last most people 2-3 weeks. However, there isn’t much research at this point on the effects of vaping CBD on your lungs. Popcorn lung is a common side effects with vaping nicotine, but it’s not known whether CBD would have the same effect when being inhaled straight into the lungs.
  • CBD capsules are very nice when you are in a hurry, and might be easier to incorporate into your morning routine, depending on if you have other vitamins or supplements you are currently taking. The down side, as mentioned before is the absorption rate. It’s unclear how much CBD will be destroyed by our gastric acid before it ever gets the chance to absorb into our blood stream.
  • CBD tinctures are typically alcohol based, but some, like That’s Natural’s do not contain the alcohol that originally gave “tinctures” their name. The beauty of tinctures is the concentration of CBD that they can contain. They can be taken sublingually, ensuring one of the purest forms of absorption known to man. Certain flavors can be added to tinctures to help stifle the cannabis taste for those that don’t want it.

The article concludes by reminding consumers to not compromise the quality based on price. Always buy a high quality product, even if it is more expensive than other options.

So, How Effective Is CBD?

Can CBD Help Me? CBD, Cannabidiol, Endocannabinoid System, CBD for health, CBD for anxiety, CBD for diabetes, CBD for Acne, CBD for Crohns, CBD for Addiction, CBD Oil, anxiety, diabetes, acne, crohn’s disease, addiction, That’s Natural, full spectrum, cannabinoids and terpenes – see more at That’s Natural and @cbdhempoil    #inflammation #immunity #immunebooster #immunesupport #cancersucks #anxietyattack #anxietyhelp #menshealth #womenshealth #wellness #holistic #wellnesswarrior #monday #motivation #essentialoils #essentials #depression #anxiety #PTSD #ptsdawareness

According to a study from Brightfield Group and HelloMD, covering 2,400 members, it is very effective. The study, referenced in this article by Forbes, was the largest survey on CBD to date.

According to the study:

“The most common reasons people used CBD were to treat insomnia, depression, anxiety and joint pain, according to Dr. Perry Solomon, the Chief Medical Officer of HelloMD. Forty-two percent of the CBD users said they had stopped using traditional medications like Tylenol pain relievers or prescription drugs like Vicodin and had switched to using cannabis instead. Eighty percent said that they found the products to be “very or extremely effective.” Only 3% or less found the product to be either ineffectual or only slightly effective.”

The article noted that there are over 850 brands of marijuana-derived CBD products and 150 hemp-derived products. Surprisingly, nearly 200 of consumers surveyed didn’t know which type of product they consumed. Additionally, it was shown that women use CBD more than men, contrary to the expected outcome. Only 45% of users were men.

Hemp-derived CBD is available in every state and even online. Of those surveyed, they said they normally spend between $20-$80/month on CBD products. Dr. Solomon said, “This landmark survey, in terms of its size and depth, shows the tremendous value that these products have for patients, Hopefully, access for products such as these will help patients all across the country who cannot obtain medication that contains THC.”

This study shows how effective CBD is for most people. With at least 97% of people at least somewhat effective, and nearly 50% stopping traditional medications, it shows why more and more people are turning to CBD for their health needs.
