More and more health professionals are acknowledging CBD as a therapeutic treatment – and CJ is no exception. CJ is a registered nurse that suffers from several medical conditions including osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. The anti-inflammatory painkillers she was prescribed led to many side effects, which have now virtually disappeared since taking CBD.
CJ says, “It’s helped amazingly, I don’t wake up feeling like an absolute zombie. I used to be constipated and all the different drugs would make me nauseated. They would do all these things to me that cannabis doesn’t.”
Much like That’s Natural!, she is an advocate for food and medicine freedom. She says, “It’s about human rights. Patients aren’t criminals – they need to be listened to and given that choice to be able to take the medicine that they want.”
So, is there any research behind CJ’s claims? Absolutely!
This study links the endocannabinoid system with osteoarthritis as a therapeutic treatment. It states that “compelling evidence suggests an active participation of the endocannabinoid system in the pathophysiology of this disease.” It concludes by stating that although it is only “preclinical data”, there is promising results obtained in support of the therapeutic value of certain cannabinoids for osteoarthritis.
For fibromyalgia, there are several studies linking CBD as an effective treatment. From chronic pain, sleep, endurance, anxiety, depression, inflammation, muscle spasms, mood, and overall mental health and well-being, reports of people finding success using CBD continue to emerge. Another study in that article states that fibromyalgia is now believed to be a “central sensitization state with secondary hyperalgesia. Cannabinoids have similarly demonstrated the ability to block spinal, peripheral and gastrointestinal mechanisms that promote pain in headache, fibromyalgia, IBS and related disorders.” In conclusion, this study stated that, “Migraine, fibromyalgia, IBS and related conditions display common clinical, biochemical and pathophysiological patterns that suggest an underlying clinical endocannabinoid deficiency that may be suitably treated with cannabinoid medicines.”
So, yes, there is evidence behind CJ’s claims, although they may not exist on large scale. Everyone’s body is different, and as with pharmaceutical drugs, not everyone will experience exactly eh same response to CBD.
