Cannabinol (CBN) is yet another prominent cannabinoid in That’s Natural’s products. Again, research shows that this cannabinoid has a wide variety of benefits, but they are often amplified with the combination of other cannabinoids and terpenes. Below are four of the most common benefits that CBN is used for.
Insomnia is CBN’s most pronounced attribute. Interestingly, according to this article, CBN is actually due to the degradation of THC – even though it has no, or very little, psychoactive effects. The article states that only 2.5mg – 5mg of CBD has the same level of sedation as 5-10mg of diazepam – a pharmaceutical sedative. CBN is synergistic with CBD, and can work as an effective sleep aid for as much as 6 hours.
- Pain Relief
Cannabinol, according to this journal article, is a weak CB1 receptor, but still has strong analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Although there is a lot of researching underway, it is not known exactly how CBN works in regards to pain relief, although anecdotal research shows that it does, indeed work.
Like many of the cannabinoids, Cannabinol has been shown to have anti-bacterial properties. The following is what this study by the National Institutes of Health said about Cannabinol’s impact on bacteria. Cannabinol, “showed potent activity against a variety of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strains of current clinical relevance. Activity was remarkably tolerant to the nature of the prenyl moiety, to its relative position compared to the n-pentyl moiety (abnormal cannabinoids), and to carboxylation of the resorcinyl moiety (pre-cannabinoids).”
Again, like most cannabinoids, CBN enhances the anti-inflammatory effects of each other. CBN is no different. Studies like this one show that Cannabinol can act as an anti-inflammatory agent. “Intraperitoneal administration of cannabinol (CBN) in OVA-sensitized and challenged A/J mice led to attenuation of serum IgE, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 mRNA expression and decreased allergen-induced mucus production, indicating that cannabinoid-based compounds may represent a novel class of therapeutic agents for the treatment of allergic airway diseases.”
That’s Natural products are considered to be full spectrum meaning they contain cannabinoids and terpenes from the whole plant. Every mammal has an endocannabinoid system, which is fueled by these cannabinoids and terpenes. The combination of these compounds help to provide what is known as the entourage effect. Here you can listen to Dr. David Allen explain how the endocannabinoid system contributes to how our immune system and nervous system function.
