Skin Care Benefits from Cannabinoids Like CBD

One of the best ways to enjoy the effects of non-psychoactive cannabinoids like CBD is transdermally - on the skin.  When the cutaneous endocannabinoid system is in #balance, it appears that there is less of the pathological conditions of #acne #dermatitis #psoriasis and even #cancer. That’s Natural has a skin-care line that includes: our signature CBD-Rich Healing Crème, Super Salve, Face & Eye Dream Crème, and our popular Bosom/Body Lotion Potion. In a recent interview with NewBeauty, several skin professionals opened about uses for CBD. Ildi Pekar is a celebrity facialist for supermodels. Dr Sejal Shah and Dr Estee Williams are dermatologists in New York that were also interviewed about CBD.

Pekar explained that CBD contains strong antioxidant properties, which makes it an ideal way of reducing inflammation in the skin and body. She said, “Most people are unaware of how inflammation in the skin and body can be a root cause for other major health concerns, making it important to reduce inflammation for your health.” Dr Shah followed this up by explaining that CBD has been anecdotally used for a wide variety of medical issues. “It also acts as an anti-inflammatory and contains beneficial amino acids, vitamins and minerals.”

These professionals believe that topical uses of CBD are most effective, but that internal uses also have benefits. Dr Williams explained that “A few small studies suggest that topical cannabinoids may be helpful in select skin diseases, such as psoriasis, eczema and dry skin. However, there is no data to suggest it would have any benefit to acne, rosacea, or cosmetic concerns such as skin wrinkling and loss of elasticity, or that it has any preventive anti-aging benefits.”

This is where Dr Williams and Pekar disagree. Pekar points out that CBD oil is full of antioxidants that help to soothe and heal inflammation, which helps to hydrate the skin, and treat acne. “When teamed up with hydrating oils, the cannabinoids also contribute to the skin’s natural barrier function, as they stimulate cell regeneration for healthier, youthful look.”

“CBD is going to be a huge breakthrough in skin care (and in medicine for the body), and we are always finding new and better ways to consume this ingredient for healing purposes,” says Pekar.

CBD Research For Pets Growing Rapidly

CBD for Pets from Thats Natural Dogs & Cats, V1

Many pet owners are looking for natural remedies for their pets that won’t harm them or change their demeanor. Of those interested, a lot of them are turning to CBD. In an earlier post, we examine what certain pet owners are using CBD for with their pets. Some of these include anxiety, arthritis, and seizures.

This article describe a current study being conducted focused on arthritis and epilepsy in dogs, and the impact CBD may have on them. Felix Duerr, a doctor of veterinary medicine at Colorado State University is leading the arthritis portion of this study. He claims that CBD will not cure arthritis, but may be able to alleviate some of the symptoms and pain that accompany it. “Arthritis is a disease that you can’t really cure: It is degeneration of the cartilage and all of the structures surrounding the joint,” Dr. Duerr said. “Cartilage is really an interesting part of the body because it doesn’t have a great capability of regenerating.”

Part of this study is to try to understand why CBD has an impact on so many issues. “It’s an interesting drug because it has so many effects,” Dr. Duerr said. “There are just so many receptors that are not researched to a degree where we know why (CBD) is doing this.”

Dr. Stephen McGrath of CSU is studying the impact on epileptic seizures with dogs. “My hope is that CBD acts as a replacement for our conventional drugs that we have available,” Dr. McGrath said. “And the reason being is that often times the drugs that we have out there to use for dogs with epilepsy, either don’t work … or they cause side-effects that are often times very difficulty for owners to manage.”

While both doctor’s agree that the evidence is still anecdotal, and in the beginning phases, they remain optimistic. More research is needed to help us understand exactly how these compounds work, and why they work before a lot of people, or government agencies will openly approve cannabis related medicines.

How Does CBD Affect Inflammation?

It’s been said that inflammation is the root cause of many diseases/disorders. If people can reduce the inflammation, a lot of the pain and discomfort they are experiencing from a variety of issues likely will diminish or completely resolve. CBD, or Cannabidiol, has been shown to help inflammation. It’s been said that inflammation is the root cause of many diseases/disorders. If people can reduce the inflammation, a lot of the pain and discomfort they are experiencing from a variety of issues likely will diminish or completely resolve. One study claims that:

“We report that systemic and intrathecal administration of cannabidiol (CBD)….and its modified derivatives significantly suppress chronic inflammatory and neuropathic pain without causing apparent analgesic tolerance in rodents. The cannabinoids significantly potentiate glycine currents in dorsal horn neurons in rat spinal cord slices. The analgesic potency of 11 structurally similar cannabinoids is positively correlated with cannabinoid potentiation of the α3 GlyRs. In contrast, the cannabinoid analgesia is neither correlated with their binding affinity for CB1 and CB2 receptors nor with their psychoactive side effects.”

This study concluded by stating that cannabinoids, such as CBD, may represent a wide class of therapeutic agents for pain and other diseases. Additionally, another study discusses the topical/transdermal use of CBD and inflammation. This study found that CBD, when applied transdermally, prevented the inflammation of edema induced by sub-plantar injection in animal models. It concluded that transdermal CBD could be used as an effective anti-inflammatory treatment.

A final study discussed how CBD has been shown to block diabetes – endotoxin-induced retinal damage. The results showed that CBD blocked adenosine uptake and synergistically enhanced adenosine’s TNF-α suppression. In conclusion, it stated that CBD’s “anti-inflammatory effects are linked to the inhibition of adenosine uptake.”

As more studies come out, and more is understood about CBD and its actions, it becomes more obvious why CBD is so important. Its anti-inflammatory properties seem to be helping with a variety of different ailments. If inflammation is the root of so many diseases/disorders, it shouldn’t be a surprise why CBD has been shown to help with so many medical ailments.

The Bi-Phasic Effects of CBD

What Does BiPhasal Mean - That's Natural at www.cbdoil.life, V1

A lot of people ask if CBD will help them sleep. Others ask if it will help them focus more, or be more alert. Studies have shown that it can do both – based on the amount of CBD that you take. Obviously, everyone’s body is different, so that amount will differ from person to person.

So, what exactly does “bi-phasic” mean? According to the Webster dictionary, biphasic simply means “having two phases”. Regarding sleep cycles, that means that a certain substance can make you more alert in certain dosages, and have a sedative effect with other dosages.

The National Institutes of Health reports that CBD is biphasic, where low concentrations stimulate activity, while higher concentrations limited activity. The Sleep Doctor also explains how CBD may help with sleep:

“CBD has the ability to reduce anxiety, which can be helpful in reducing sleep difficulties and improving sleep quality. CBD may increase overall sleep amounts, and improve insomnia, according to research. CBD has been shown to reduce insomnia in people who suffer from chronic pain.

In smaller doses, CBD stimulates alertness and reduces daytime sleepiness, which is important for daytime performance and for the strength and consistency of the sleep-wake cycle.”

So, although there isn’t recommended dosages that have been found effective for these purposes at this point, the research shows that CBD is indeed biphasic in regards to the sleep-wake cycle.

11-Year Old Boy Now Seizure Free For Almost A Year After Taking CBD

CBD News – 11-year-old Billy Caldwell finds relief from seizures using CBD Oil! Billy Caldwell was suffering up to 30 seizures a month due to his epilepsy, all of which were life threatening according to Metro News from the UK. Billy is one of thousands of kids suffering from seizures that don’t respond to medicine or diet treatments.

Dr Bendan O’Hare, Billy’s general practitioner (GP) started prescribing CBD oil because of the unique situation. Dr. O’Hare stated, “Whatever the rights and wrongs, we had a child who had benefitted and the child’s welfare was paramount. On that basis, I issued a prescription.”

Billy and his general practitioner are from the United Kingdom, where, like the United States, CBD is legal. Billy’s mother chimed in saying, “Billy is doing absolutely incredible, he’s improving every week and making progress. I never anticipated a year ago that he would even be still here today so I’m feeling really good and positive.”

It’s been over 300 days since Billy’s last seizure. That’s over 300 seizures that Billy has avoided because of his doctor’s prescription of CBD oil. It is interesting to note how willing the government in the UK is to admit CBD’s healing properties.

“Last year, a government regulator said that CBD has a ‘restoring’ effect on humans – and is a legitimate medicine.

The MHRA (Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulation Agency) says that cannabidiol has a ‘restoring, correcting or modifying’ effect on ‘physiological functions’.

‘Cannabidiol’ (CBD), is a chemical from cannabis which campaigners claim helps with diseases including cancer and Crohn’s disease.

Crucially, CBD products don’t contain any THC, the chemical in cannabis which causes the high – and it is legal in the UK.”

The outlook for CBD becomes greater and greater the more stories like this arise. Billy is living a more normal life now than he has in years thanks to this compound.

Weight Lifters and Gym Goers Seeing Benefits of CBD

All people (and mammals), have an an endocannabinoid system, meaning our body can produce its own cannabinoids. It is believed that a lot of various health issues stem from an endocannabinoid deficiency, but fortunately that is an easy solution! We can simply apply/consume more cannabinoids like CBD.

So how can all of this relate to those “gym rats” and weight lifters? According to the Irish Mirror, three main issues that these athletes experience is appetite, sleep and stress, and delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Typically people that work out and become sore result to taking anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen. However, Ibuprofen is showing to be more and more toxic. Many Irish gym users have begun using CBD oil to help reduce the pain from muscle soreness.

Insomnia and anxiety are often caused by increased levels of cortisol in our body. One way to decrease cortisol levels is to sleep. Not only does sleep reduce the cortisol in one’s body, but it also gives your body a chance to repair itself and recover from DOMS. As this article points out, CBD oil can dramatically improve sleep levels and decrease anxiety.

To replenish the calories that someone burns when working out, they must eat. Building muscle depends greatly on how many calories are being consumed. Many people struggle with maintaining a high enough appetite for to consume the needed calories, protein, and carbohydrates to build muscle. CBD has been shown to help promote the hormones in our body that are responsible for hunger.

Instead of consuming many harsh chemicals/compounds, many weight lifters are beginning to seek alternative methods to help them gain muscle – including CBD. As studies continue to become available to the public, it will be exciting to see how many more unknown benefits CBD and other cannabinoids actually have.

CBD Now A Part of the NFL?

CBD for Chronic Pain - NFL players recognizing and promoting CBD (Cannabidiol) for chronic pain management and recovery from traumatic nervous system disorders.  CBD may help with many types of pain, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other nervous system disorders.  See more research and news from That’s Natural at www.cbdoil.life and @cbdhempoil  #CTE #alzheimers #parkinsons #NFL #concussions #sports #sportsmedicine #ThatsNatural #football #holistic #health #menshealth #health #mondaymotivation

Every year, more and more research comes out showing how damaged NFL players brains can get because of the sport. Rule changes, safety precautions, and new gear has become an everyday occurrence in the NFL world. Concussions and CTE have become one of the primary focuses, and they are always hoping a “miracle pill” will develop to help prevent these issues. It may not be a miracle pill, but the new concussion pill may very well contain large amounts of CBD.

It is expected that such a pill could arrive as soon as 2025, or as late as 2030. Last October, the University of Miami was given $16 million in grant money to research the combination of CBD and an anesthetic with the goal of developing a treatment of brain trauma and concussions. The study is expected to conclude in 2021.

CBD has been proven to contain several neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory properties. Nate Jackson, former NFL player believes CBD could be the NFL’s best bet, because of its ability to work as both a pain killer and a treatment for concussions.

“I played six years. Chances are that my brain has been altered by the game. But I am not feeling symptomatic. Why am I not? If I do, when will it happen? Did the cannabis I used when I was playing help protect my brain? Is it helping me now? A lot of us say it is helping, but that’s just our hunches. We don’t know for sure.”

Even though nothing has been proven, the federal government even owns a patent for cannabinoids working as neuroprotectants. The patent abstract says,

“The cannabinoids are found to have particular application as neuroprotectants, for example in limiting neurological damage following ischemic insults, such as stroke and trauma, or in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and HIV dementia. Non-psychoactive cannabinoids, such as cannabidiol, are particularly advantageous to use because they avoid toxicity that is encountered with psychoactive cannabinoids at high doses useful in the method of the present invention.”

Registered Nurse Claims CBD Helps More Than Pharmaceutical Drugs

Can CBD Help Me - That's Natural at www.cbdoil.life, V1

More and more health professionals are acknowledging CBD as a therapeutic treatment – and CJ is no exception. CJ is a registered nurse that suffers from several medical conditions including osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia. The anti-inflammatory painkillers she was prescribed led to many side effects, which have now virtually disappeared since taking CBD.

CJ says, “It’s helped amazingly, I don’t wake up feeling like an absolute zombie. I used to be constipated and all the different drugs would make me nauseated. They would do all these things to me that cannabis doesn’t.”

Much like That’s Natural!, she is an advocate for food and medicine freedom. She says, “It’s about human rights. Patients aren’t criminals – they need to be listened to and given that choice to be able to take the medicine that they want.”

So, is there any research behind CJ’s claims? Absolutely!

This study links the endocannabinoid system with osteoarthritis as a therapeutic treatment. It states that “compelling evidence suggests an active participation of the endocannabinoid system in the pathophysiology of this disease.” It concludes by stating that although it is only “preclinical data”, there is promising results obtained in support of the therapeutic value of certain cannabinoids for osteoarthritis.

For fibromyalgia, there are several studies linking CBD as an effective treatment. From chronic pain, sleep, endurance, anxiety, depression, inflammation, muscle spasms, mood, and overall mental health and well-being, reports of people finding success using CBD continue to emerge. Another study in that article states that fibromyalgia is now believed to be a “central sensitization state with secondary hyperalgesia. Cannabinoids have similarly demonstrated the ability to block spinal, peripheral and gastrointestinal mechanisms that promote pain in headache, fibromyalgia, IBS and related disorders.” In conclusion, this study stated that, “Migraine, fibromyalgia, IBS and related conditions display common clinical, biochemical and pathophysiological patterns that suggest an underlying clinical endocannabinoid deficiency that may be suitably treated with cannabinoid medicines.”

So, yes, there is evidence behind CJ’s claims, although they may not exist on large scale. Everyone’s body is different, and as with pharmaceutical drugs, not everyone will experience exactly eh same response to CBD.

CBD For Dogs – A Guide to Parents in Need

CBD for Dogs from Thats Natural - Older Doggy, V1

Dogs are like kids to a lot of people. We hurt when they hurt – we are happy when they are happy. When they are in pain, it can sometimes be harder than another person hurting – simply because we can’t tell them it will be ok. Holistic veterinarians have started turning to hemp products for our pets. CBD seems to be what a lot of pets are most responsive to within cannabis. While pets don’t respond well to THC, CBD tends to bring forth a feeling of calmness and balance in all mammals.

CBD fits into mammals bodies like a glove. We all have an endocannabinoid system, which is basically a network of receptors and activators that regulate certain functions of the body. Endocannabinoids are chemicals which our bodies produce to maintain homeostasis. Unfortunately, our pets sometimes have difficulties producing these endocannabinoids, which produce an imbalance in their systems. By taking cannabinoids, like CBD, these endocannabinoids are replicated and stimulated.

CBD will interact with receptors like TRPV1, 5-HT1A and GPR55. TRPV-1 receptors help balance body temperature, pain, and even inflammation. When 5-HT1A receptors are stimulated, there is a significant increase in dopamine secretion – producing antidepressant and anxiolytic effects. CBD blocks GPR55 signaling, which has been shown to decrease reproduction of cancer cells. Some evidence exists that CBD may activate PPARs receptors as well – another anti-proliferative effect.

CBD has really only been studied anecdotally with in-vitro clinical trials. Most of the studies have been done on rats, with fewer on people, and even fewer on dogs. However, more and more studies are coming out from dog owners regarding CBD’s effect on their pets. So, what exactly can CBD be potentially beneficial for with dogs?

Allergies

Itching, scratching, licking, chewing…dogs become very irritated with skin issues. Generally, these issues mainly affect dog’s bellies, armpits, ears, paws, and cheeks. Thankfully, CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, which often helps relieve the cause of itching, hives, and blisters. While most owners put CBD on their dogs food, you can also apply it directly to their skin.

Anxiety

While CBD has been shown to relieve anxiety in a lot of people, so it’s not a surprise that a lot of people are now using it on their pets. Dogs can often have separation anxiety while being left alone and may even lead to destructive behavior. Not only do some dogs experience relief from anxiety, but some owners notice less fears and phobias like fireworks on the 4th of July when using CBD. Additionally, some owners notice that their dogs are less aggressive while on CBD.

GI issues

CBD seems to boost appetite in dogs as well as relieving digestive problems. Some dogs, like people, are very picky eaters. By increasing their appetite, some dogs may not be as picky. This could be good for dogs who have troubles eating a healthy amount of food – or have been given too many treats to want solid food.

Arthritis and other pains

Arthritis is one of the most orthopedic issues in dogs. The most common among this term is hip dysplasia. Many veterinarians have turned to CBD because of its anti-inflammatory and painkilling effects for pets with orthopedic illnesses. Cancer is the most common cause of deaths in dogs over the age of 10. Although CBD does have many anti-proliferative properties, it can also be used for cancer pains.

Seizures

Normally, dogs that suffer from epilepsy, suffer from an abnormal electrical activity burst in the dog’s brain. Seizures in dogs can be caused from eating something poisonous, head trauma, stroke, brain cancer, and many other conditions. 1-5% of dogs suffer from seizures and/or epilepsy. Traditional medicines like phenobarbital generally stop the seizures, but have numerous side effects in both humans and dogs. Hundreds of testimonials have emerged about pet owners, and humans themselves, using CBD to help treat their seizures.
