Mob rule is a dangerous thing, and in our country we are seeing its effects daily.
A mob has no individual voices, only a conglomerate acting as one. Mobs generally don’t have ‘discussions’ or take time to ask questions or reflect – a mob has a mission, usually one of destruction.
A mob acts through violence and coercion for its end goal – it has grievances, and those grievances usually must be met with bloodshed. Hysteria rules, and those who give in to the hysteria, although temporarily placating the one voice of the mob, will eventually see the mob’s rage.
You cannot please people who are out for blood, with seething rage, and absolutely no knowledge of history, no desire to learn, no room for debate, no way to solve the problem without destruction and violence. You cannot solve these people’s problems. Their desire is one of annihilation. Victor Davis Hanson said something to the effect ‘..ignorance and arrogance are a dangerous combination’. So true.
Mark Zuckerburg and Facebook are facing criticism from people who want to stop ‘hate speech’ on his online platform. It is a private company, so one really can’t get overly upset about ANYTHING (sans the fact that they are ‘protected’ by our worthless ‘leaders’ in Congress), but because of its reach into so many people’s lives, it is interesting to at least discuss. What is ‘hate speech’? Who decides what hate speech is? Right now the hate is supposedly from people who are racist – but who decides who that is? It’s a never-ending circle of argument… I am banned from Facebook, I don’t even know why – but who made that decision to log me out and not allow me back on? I never posted anything political as of the past several years, and just wanted to advertise some pastries. Oh, and I own a company in the cannabis space… maybe that is racist?
The most awesome thing about this hatred and violence though, is that the mob starts to eat its own. Facebook is arguably very biased against conservatives (the same with Twitter, Instagram, etc.) – I think this is provable. But because this platform isn’t doing “enough” to stop the racism (by shutting people up on their online platform) – liberal people and companies aren’t advertising in a show of solidarity with the mob. It is fascinating because these people who have stopped advertising are attempting to ‘harm’ the very platform that got them to the position that they are in with their advertising dollars! I love it! They are eating their own…. good job mob!
Call it karma, but I do believe in goodness and by avoiding this altogether one will see that eventually this mob will turn on the people who are fueling it. And I can’t wait.
