Small Towns in Colorado Question Fluoride in Drinking Water

Local citizen activism, re-taking control and accountability equals better, more accountable governments.

Colorado continues to set an example for communities around the country to take control of their resources at a local level and fight back for their right to clean, pure, unaltered water.   On the Western Slope of Colorado (counties to the west of the Continental Divide), there are a few small towns that have made headlines this year for questioning the addition of fluoride to drinking water.

Rifle, a Western Slope working community, with large amounts of oil and gas exploration, started this trend by debating to remove fluoride from their municipal water source.  Earlier this year, Rifle decided to allow citizens to make the decision in a vote when the construction of a new water treatment plant is complete.

Snowmass, the high-end resort community has taken charge as well.  In July, Snowmass decided to stop adding fluoride to its drinking water.

Citizen activism is what has spurred the on-going debate and actionable solutions – showing what a difference a few visits to a city council or county commissioner meeting can make.

Getting Fluoride Out of Our Water

The government says that fluoride is harmless, but others disagree, and That’s Natural is one of them.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) says that fluoride promotes “dental health”, unless you get too much, and then, it can increase the “likelihood of bone fractures” and may result “in effects on bone leading to pain and tenderness”.  But that is “only” if you get too much. How would anyone know how much anyone else is getting?

Of course, sometimes the government ‘gets it wrong’ – like in the case of Triclosan, that was approved by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), but has been shown to be an anti-bacterial chemical that can harm or change the endocrine system (hormones) in animals.  It was “approved”, but that never meant it was “safe” or “good” for people.  You see, sometimes, the government can get it wrong.

Government, as you know, is just a collection of human beings – not necessarily endowed with more intelligence than you or I, or anyone else.  Mistakes can be made.

There is mounting evidence that fluoride in your water can be detrimental to your body.  The most resounding and dangerous effect being damage to the brain.  The EPA has a study showing “substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity”.  This is the same agency saying it is good for us and safe to consume over a period of a lifetime?  That doesn’t make a lot of sense.

People deserve a choice.  Just like the GMO (genetically modified organisms) debate.  Most will agree that it should not be in our food supply at all – but all people should agree that we should be able to make this choice for ourselves.  It is criminal to be consuming something that is bad for us that is being deliberately put into our water by a government agency.  Rebellion from such a system means standing up at the citizen-level of government to get it out of our water – are you up for it?  See the Fluoride Action Network for more Resources: www.fluoridealert.org

Let's Stop the EPA from Taking Your Property

Property rights, the ability to own “things”, and the protection against having groups of people – whether in government or in business – be able to “take your stuff”, is a unique and coveted component of our country.

Americans are feeling the heat – farmers, small-business-owners, and most everyone who lives paycheck-to-paycheck – can feel that something is trying to stop them from being able to work, to make money, to protect their property, and to be able to accomplish “the American Dream”.

There are thousands of laws on the books that are not equally enforceable, and so oftentimes, those trying hardest to “follow the law” are the ones that get punished.  Where is the justice in that?

Another law coming down the pipe that supports and promotes the non-environmentally-protecting EPA yet again threatens farmers and property owners with the un-just and un-constitutional actions of the federal government.  The EPA proposal will “regulate” (AKA: spy on, fine, and take away) property with isolated water accumulations (e.g. ponds and marshes) with no direct flow or connection to navigable waterways (e.g. streams and rivers).

Basically, every property in America would have some accumulation of water, at some point.  And so this piece of legislation, the Clean Water Act, with this proposed rule – could be damaging to not only farmers and ranchers – but even home-owners.

In our elections, in our consumption, and in our voice – it is up to us to step up and protect each other.  We are the servers of justice, and you and I must protect each other’s property – whether it is our homes, our land, our bank-accounts, or our family.  It’s up to us, and we must oppose laws that can take away our property – it is the antithesis of the American Dream.

Arsenic in Our Food – Blaming & Changing

Arsenic is a naturally occurring substance, and in the environment, and even naturally occurring in some foods (for instance, in apricot kernels – which are also very high in Vitamin B). But there is evidence of an increasing amount of arsenic in rice, and the occurrence is not natural. As a matter of fact, it may be contributing to various sicknesses – including cancer.

The federal government and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have (in the past) been charged with protecting the American people and their health (along with other agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)). Unbelievably, “they” monitor (attempt to monitor) the levels of arsenic in water – but not in food. This is a minor oversight, but serves as an example, that no large, bureaucratic agency is capable of adapting to the needs of over 307 million Americans.

State and local governments are more apt and able to be in tune to the needs of the people – including keeping an eye on levels of arsenic in the water and the land that we grow our food in. In addition to this – to mimic what Dr. Oz said this morning – consumers can “nudge” companies to change their practices and make sure that we hold companies accountable to us – the consumer. After all, we are buying their product and contributing to their bottom line. That creates instant solutions – by people voting with their dollar and holding companies accountable for the toxins they put into the environment and the food that they produce. That is quick, smart, and a natural way to change this bad situation. It is, in essence, letting the free market work. We, as consumers, hold immense amounts of power. Because, we at any time, can stop buying their products.

This news about arsenic levels is not surprising – the United States’ centralized food supply is dangerous to our economy, our health, and the environment. News like this can encourage us to know our farmers, know our producers, and hold companies accountable for what they are doing. It can also show us that the centralized bureaucracy at the federal level of government does nothing to protect us – our State and local governments are better able to serve our needs when it comes to our health and wellness.

Updated Bill List – CONSTITUTION WATCH, EPA and Aministrative Power and Funcitons!

The Environmental Protection Agency may be given to power to make rules and have enforcement concerning the regulation of CARBON DIOXIDE.  There is NO LAW being passed for this – it is an ADMINISTRATIVE part of the government that has been given the power to make rules about carbon dioxide emissions, as well as the power to ENFORCE these rules.  Please keep an eye on this as it can have many negative repercussions for our society, free market, and liberties.

Already in our national and local versions of The Good American Post, you will find contact information for your representatives at the local, state, and national level.  We want to take this one step further by have information on LEGISLATION that is at the state and national levels that may affect our Constitutional Rights.  Let’s all look at the issues and make sure that our representatives are aware of how we feel about them.  KNOW WHAT YOU ARE VOTING FOR and keep your representatives honest!
